Luna Honey
Bound
Independent
Luna Honey has been churning out bold and abrasive dark avant rock since 2018. The Philadelphia band barely breathes until they release another journey into the unknown. Bound continues with that same philosophy.
“Kerosene” is art rock that emits the same feeling as walking into a dark alley. The introduction builds dissonance and an uneaseness between Benjamin Schurr and Maura Pond’s guitars and Pond’s vocals. This song is pure alternative angular bliss, creating krautrock visages with gothic undertones.
It’s the studio where they feel free to experiment and open up. Songs like “Vacuum Cleaner” or the psychedelic drift of “Lead.” Post-seven minutes of eyes rolled back pulsing rhythms form Levi Flack and guitar pondering really punctuates the band’s versatility.
Luna Honey can be as sensual (“Lemon”) as they can hypnotic (“Snarge”). Pond has one of the more creative and luxurious voices to draw from various sources that almost feel chant-like (again, “Snarge” or the title track) or operatic (“Vacuum Cleaner”). Dulcet tones feel trance-like, sometimes dangerous, and often with chills rippling down your spine.
Bound is a part of the whole, and an album that shows Luna Honey getting better with each release.
