Shining Glass
Yellow & Purple
Independent
Years of creativity and maturity have blessed the growth of Shining Glass to make Yellow & Purple an incredible musical feat. This EP is surprising how much talent and technique is involved, from pop-like constructions that build off of each other as in the opener “Two Birds” to international flavors as in “Three Died,” forming a bond between spirit and place.
Experience from bouncing between recording in Los Angeles and Tel Aviv gave a breath of depth to the music not generally found in most independent albums. Drew Johnson’s compositions are assisted by Roger Manning, Jr. (Jellyfish, Imperial Drag, and Beck’s touring band), Ken Sluiter (more popularly known as a co-producer, engineer, and mixer) and Charlie Paxson (who cites credits on James Blunt’s Back to Bedlam album). Add Gal Hever on oud and percussionist Shlomo Deshet, and you have a robust band.
Yellow & Purple creeps up on you and explodes into a beautiful kaleidoscope of rock aesthetics with traditionalistic mantras burning bright with progressive attitude. What this band does is make an EP not feel like an EP. By the time you make it through this rather quick jaunt, you will feel fulfilled that you witnessed something great in this world. I cannot wait to see what they do next!
